January 2018 skincare empties

January 2018 skincare empties

It’s a thing amongst beauty bloggers to share their empties each month. I’m always incredibly curious to learn what gorgeous natural skincare and beauty products other beauty bloggers have used up. So I thought I’d hop on the bandwagon by sharing my own January 2018 skincare empties!

I appear to have consumed a lot of skincare in January. However, some of these products have been open since 2013 (I don’t adhere to use by dates). In January I made a conscious effort to use up old products, for several reasons.

First, I’ve been sent new and lovely skincare products to test this month, and need to make room. Second, I’m now a LoveLula Accredited Blogger with an allowance each month. I have a burning desire to break out of my comfort zone to try new things! Third, I’ve been taking better care of myself and actually using the products in my stash. I’ve even been finding time to wash my hair every other day, and apply body lotion daily. Wow, go me!

You’ll be relieved to know that all the packaging will be recycled. Along with recycling, I’ve become aware of the need to reduce packaging, especially single use plastic packaging. See this great post about the importance of packaging from Jana at Small Bits of Loveliness. I’m going to try to cut down on plastics from now on.

Let’s take a look at my January 2018 skincare empties.

Full size natural skincare products

Green People Gentle Cleanse and Makeup Remover

My all-time favourite natural cleanser. So comforting and soothing.

Old faithful - Green People Gentle Cleanse and Makeup Remover

However, the quest for a new cleanser has overcome me, and I’m now looking for a new cleanser to match the greatness of this cleanser!

Green People Foaming Face Wash

I always double cleanse after wearing makeup or oil cleansing, and my current favourite foaming cleanser is this one. It’s refreshing and controls any breakouts.

Green People Day Solution

This is my go to summer moisturiser and the one I use when my skin is spotty and hormonal.

Green People Day Solution

It keeps spots at bay so well with willow bark, prebiotics and pineapple enzymes.

Weleda Baby Calendula Bath

Okay, we used this calendula bath up months ago, but I’m only just recycling the packaging now because we’ve been using it as a rinse bottle in Jonah’s bath.

Weleda Baby Calendula Bath

I’d definitely buy this again, even though it is expensive. What stops me is that there are so many other bath products for Jonah I’d like to try! But we’ll definitely come back to this one. It’s so herbal and relaxing. Jonah seems to love it!

Urtekram Coconut Oil Body Lotion

I’m eternally in love with all things coconut. It’s a blissful scented reminder of tropical holidays, and delicious bakes. I wasn’t disappointed with this COSMOS standard body lotion, but for some reason I never used it all. It went a bit rancid and I had to bin some of the contents.

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream

This hand cream was kindly sent to me by Megan Edwards, Weleda Wellbeing Advisor. She’s such a lovely mama and knows so much about the Weleda brand and their products.

I’d definitely buy this one again as it smells absolutely gorgeous and has just the right balance of care to greasiness.

Weleda Citrus Hand and Nail Cream

I bought this in 2013 and it has kept well. I have no idea why I didn’t use it up sooner, since it’s a great hand cream! It’s a lot like Skin Food but specifically for hands.

Organic Shop Organic Borago & Sandal Volume Conditioner

Honestly, I was impressed to find a COSMOS standard yet cheap conditioner right in front of my eyes at my local Tesco superstore. But I couldn’t wait to get through this. It did my hair no favours. When I switched over to Green People Quinoa Conditioner, the difference was noticeable.

Kudos to this range though, for making organic products available at a lower cost.

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Zinnia

I used to buy this tinted lip balm religiously. I find the colour brings such a nice warm tint to my lips, and the formula is so moisturising. However, since learning that Burt’s Bees may no longer be cruelty free, I’ll not be supporting this brand with my purchases. Next, to find a new tinted lip balm as good as this one!

Balm Balm Rose Floral Water Hydrosol

I absolutely love this floral water and immediately purchased the full size product after I used up the trial size bottle I received as a Christmas gift.

Balm Balm Rose Floral Water Hydrosol

I use it after cleansing or for a quick freshen up. Read more about this product in my recommendations for Valentine’s natural beauty gifts.

Weleda Skin Food

This multipurpose cream barely needs an introduction. I buy Weleda Skin Food over and over for myself and my family, too! I should review it someday!

Green People Quinoa & Avocado Hair Serum

I regularly use and love Green People Quinoa and Avocado Shampoo and Conditioner, so thought I would give this serum a try. And oh wow, this is an amazing product! I’m definitely going to invest in this one. It really plumped up my hair and gave it more body.

Balm Balm Coconut Cleanser

This amazing little cleanser is purely liquid coconut oil. It does a good job of removing makeup when used with a muslin cloth. I found it a bit harder to remove my eyeliner with this cleanser than with my usual cleanser, so I probably won’t buy the full size product.

The Christer Collection Essential Oil Bath Capsules

My lovely mother in law gifted me these the first Christmas after Jonah was born. I received Sensual (ylang ylang, patchouli, and lavender) and Emotional Wellbeing (ylang ylang, orange, and may chang).

I didn’t get chance to use them properly, since I only ever took baths with Jonah, and didn’t want to expose him to essential oils too early (lavender and chamomile only for him).

Unfortunately, they were starting to degrade in the packet. So I put them into the bottom of the shower where they dissolved and threw a beautiful scent as I showered. The whole bathroom smelled gorgeous for days!

Mádara Time Miracle Ultimate Facelift Day Cream

I liked this sample of day cream, but since it’s super expensive I think I’d need to test it over a longer time period. I might get another couple of samples before I decide to buy it.

Burt’s Bees Almond & Milk Hand Cream

This was gifted to me one Christmas in the Burt’s Bees Tips and Toes Gift Set. It did the job okay, and I do like the strong almond smell it has.

I could never figure out why the packaging states it’s not to be used on children under 3. Doesn’t sound good does it?

As mentioned above, no more Burt’s Bees for me, although I do have some things in my stash to use up first. I’m not going to let anything go to waste.

Kneipp Foot Repair

I really like this cream and it does the job with shea butter, sweet almond oil, calendula, and rosemary. However, I was worried about it containing urea, which is a no go for me.
