Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo review

Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo

We’ve been using Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo for a couple of weeks now.

I recently weaned my husband off Head and Shoulders and he did have a bit of a moan about this shampoo, with its lack of suds and sludgy appearance. Odylique claim it can be used on baby too, but since I’m still wading through a giant bottle of Weleda Calendula Shampoo and Body Wash for little J, I’ve yet to try it on him.

The shampoo is suitable for problem scalps, although it didn’t make a lick of difference to the psoriasis on my scalp. As a result, I’ve given up hope of any external product helping with that!

If you’re swapping from a shampoo with harsh detergents you may well see a difference in the condition of your scalp, because of all the scalp loving ingredients the shampoo contains.

Let’s have a look at the beneficial ingredients:

Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo ingredients

Aqua, Coco Glucoside, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Urtica Dioica Extract, Glycerine, Lecithin, Alcohol, Levulinic Acid, Lactic Acid, P-anisic Acid, Sodium Levulinate, Xanthan Gum.

Coconut oil

High in lauric acid, which is also found in breast milk. Coconut oil cleanses and can moisturise the hair, but it isn’t right for every hair type. This is why this Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo may work better for some than others.

Aloe vera leaf juice powder

A haircare wonder product, adding shine and conditioning the hair. Aloe vera juice contains polysaccharides which limit dryness and seal moisture into the hair and scalp. Learn about the benefits of aloe vera in skin and hair care.

Aloe vera plant

Chamomile extract

Rejuvenating chamomile is anti-inflammatory, soothing and healing. Chamomile is a natural hair lightener and supports healthy hair growth. It also works wonders when taken as a herbal tea.

Chamomile flowers

Horsetail leaf extract

Ah, we had such fun playing with horsetail (aka paddock pipes) as children! Horsetail is rich in silicon, potassium, and calcium. Horsetail acts as a natural conditioner, promotes hair growth, helps correct dandruff, and treats split ends. Read more about horsetail benefits.

Horsetail

Rosemary extract

Rosemary is high in antioxidants and supports healthy hair growth. It contains ursolic acid which increases blood flow to the scalp. Rosemary can remove product build up. Its antimicrobial and antifungal properties will help treat scalp issues like flakiness and dandruff. Learn more about rosemary benefits for hair.

Nettle extract

Full of hair loving nutrients and amino acids, nettle is an age old remedy for beautiful hair and a dandruff free scalp. Nettle helps hair to maintain its colour. It is purported to help with hair loss and regrowth.

Look and feel of Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo

What attracted me to Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo was the beautiful packaging. Yes, I do love me some pretty packaging! However the bottle is where the prettiness ends. Honestly, the product looks a bit sludgy – which is slightly off-putting.

The fragrance

The fragrance is ever so soapy but without the kind of herbal smell I was expecting from its look and feel.

After washing, my hair has no fragrance. I do enjoy a subtle fragrance and scent is a definite factor is my purchasing decision. I prefer to use a shampoo with natural fragrance from essential oils. That said, if a shampoo gave me awesome results, then I’d be happy to forgo fragrance.

Using Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo

It doesn’t lather very well, but this is because it uses natural coconut oil and no harsh lathering ingredients. It does actually feel as if it’s getting my hair clean, however I need three pumps to cover my fine long hair.

Performance

My hair is left clean and shiny. Hair dries and responds well to styling after use. My hair is dyed and suffers slight dryness so although some people find they don’t need to use conditioner after using this shampoo, that’s not me. The shampoo can work wonders if you want to remove product build up.

Should I buy Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo?

Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo has impressive natural credentials, contains no harmful ingredients, and includes so many hair loving ingredients. Its packaging is beautiful, and more importantly the product is effective. However, it is quite expensive, and at this price, and with a lack of fragrance, I probably won’t buy it regularly. If you have a sensitive or itchy scalp, though, it might be just what you need.
