Lavera Purifying Scrub review

Lavera Purifying Scrub

Exfoliation is key to glowingly beautiful skin, but maternity pay only goes so far. With this in mind, I bought Lavera Purifying Scrub as a cheaper alternative to my favourite exfoliator, Green People Fruit Scrub.

Whilst Lavera Purifying Scrub is great value for money, it’s also really effective and boasts some impressive natural ingredients. Like most Lavera beauty products, Lavera Purifying Scrub is organic and NaTrue certified. It’s also a vegan product.

Unlike some conventional exfoliators that use plastic microbeads, Lavera Purifying Scrub exfoliates using jojoba beads. These natural beads are made from healthy jojoba oil. They’re biodegradable, so don’t make their way into the water system like plastic microbeads made from polyethylene. Good news for the environment!

I’m not a huge fan of the scent of this scrub. To me, it smells slightly clinical. However, the fragrance is all natural, coming from essential oils only, which is great.

The scrub comes in a tube and you can see the jojoba beads suspended in the gel base.

As with most exfoliators, this scrub should be used once or twice a week. To use, massage gently into slightly damp skin in circular movements. I like to remove gently with a warm muslin cloth. The scrub is not at all scratchy and my skin feels comfortable enough after using it. I like to finish with a facial oil following a scrub.

Let’s have a look at the lovely ingredients.

Lavera Purifying Scrub ingredients

Water, Glycerin, Alcohol, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Coco-sulfate, Hydrated Silica, Xanthan Gum, Hydrogenated Jojoba Wax, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, CI 77289, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Extract, Maltodextrin, Fragrance (Natural Essential Oils)

Jojoba wax

This key ingredient sloughs away dead skin cells to leave brighter, fresher skin.

To create jojoba pearls, natural jojoba oil is hydrogenated, creating a gentle exfoliating bead.

Ginkgo biloba leaf

This antioxidant ingredient is a wise choice for a face scrub since it helps lift impurities and dirt from the skin.

Ginkgo biloba

It has the added benefit of improving the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Safflower seed

A great treatment for breakouts and spots.

Safflower

Safflower oil is high in linoleic acid, which can improve the texture of skin.

Willow bark

A natural exfoliant which is also antioxidant, willow bark offers a range of skincare benefits. It’s anti-ageing and can help oily skin and the look of wrinkles.

Witch hazel

Infamous for its blemish control properties, witch hazel provides astringency helping to keep acne and spots in check.

Rice bran

Considered an anti-ageing secret in Japan, rice bran oil contains squalane – thought to help maintain skin’s youthfulness.

Should I buy Lavera Purifying Scrub?

Lavera Purifying Scrub is less expensive than many natural exfoliators on the market, yet is really effective. The scrub contains an impressive range of beneficial ingredients.

I do slightly prefer Green People Fruit Scrub, mainly due to its fragrance and cream texture.

If you’re looking for a value for money face scrub that does a great job, then this could be it.

What’s your favourite face scrub? Let me know in the comments – I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time!
