Faith in Nature Coconut Shampoo review

Faith in Nature Coconut Shampoo review

I bought the full size bottle of Faith in Nature Coconut Shampoo after receiving a sample with my usual monthly purchase of natural beauty products from BigGreenSmile, and I wasn’t disappointed. First, the smell is gorgeous – tropical coconut. I absolutely love all things coconut, but sometimes the fragrance doesn’t smell natural. This one does.

Second, this shampoo cleans very well indeed, and leaves my hair shiny and soft on the ends. It’s intended for dry or normal hair types. It performs great on my colour-treated, dry hair!

It looks pearly and creamy, and smells divine. The smell lingers a bit after washing.

The coconut shampoo in my hand

Let’s have a look at the ingredients.

Faith in Nature Coconut Shampoo ingredients

Aqua, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Maris Sal, Polysorbate 20, Glyceryl Laurate, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Glycerin, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil , Parfum, Steareth-4, Glycol Distearate, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Benzyl Alcohol.

Coconut oil

This ubiquitous ingredient may well be good for hair, but use with caution since it doesn’t suit every hair type. A quick search brings up all kinds of benefits such as deep conditioning, increasing volume, adding shine, and boosting hair growth. It’s worth giving it a try!

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is high in lauric acid, just like breast milk. It can penetrate hair in ways that other oils can’t. Learn more from Wellness Mama about using coconut oil for hair. My hair seems to like coconut oil, so I feel free to use shampoos that contain it.

Sunflower seed oil

A beautifully moisturising ingredient in this shampoo, sunflower seed oil has numerous benefits for hair such as conditioning, improving strength, shine, and bounce.

Sunflower

It can also help moisturise flaky scalps, so is ideal if you have dandruff or, like me, psoriasis.

Sea salt

This natural ingredient cleans, lifts, and adds body and shine to the hair.

Sea salt is a great ingredient for clean hair full of body

Sea salt is rich in minerals and is a natural preservative.

On the downside, the shampoo contains cocamidopropyl betaine. I tend to avoid this ingredient where possible, as it can be irritating.

It also contains ammonium laureth sulfate, a surfactant that cleans well, but could be irritating. While ALS does have an irritation concern, it’s not as irritating as sodium laureth sulfate (SLS). Read why ALS is less irritating than SLS on Green People’s blog. It boils down to ALS molecules being larger, meaning they can’t penetrate as easily as SLS molecules.

The shampoo also has parfum listed in the ingredients, which is another ingredient I avoid since I can’t be sure what is included.

Final thoughts on Faith in Nature Coconut Shampoo

Natural shampoo brands really don’t need to use either ALS or SLS, which is why I probably wouldn’t buy a full sized bottle of this shampoo again. I have psoriasis on my scalp so need to be extra careful not to irritate it. That said, I’ve found no irritation after using this shampoo for a few weeks.

If you’re looking for a milder shampoo then take a look at my reviews for two of my favourite natural shampoos: Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo and Lavera Colour and Shine Shampoo.

If you know your scalp can handle ALS and cocamidopropyl betaine, give this one a go. It’s good value for money, works well, and smells heavenly.

Until next time!

  1. I am trying this shampoo, thanks for the review. My husband has psoriasis as well, so always need new recommendations.

    1. Oh great, I’m glad you found it helpful! Psoriasis is a pain, so it’s always nice to try new things to see if it helps. Odylique Gentle Herb Shampoo is even milder, but it’s not like most shampoos. Link is above in the related articles if you’re interested. Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  2. Great review! I am always looking for more natural beauty products. I have been Leary to try a natural shampoo as my hair is thick and needs something strong to break up the oil.

    1. Thank you! I’m the opposite of you with very fine hair. If you were going to try one, this would be a good one, as it has strong detergents.

  3. This is such a helpful and honest review! Thanks for sharing! I’m always on the lookout for natural beauty products to incorporate into my routine.

    1. Thanks so much. I’m sure you’ll love this one!
