Green People Children Spearmint and Aloe Toothpaste review

Green People Children Spearmint and Aloe Toothpaste

In this review, Jonah tries out Green People Children Spearmint and Aloe Toothpaste. We’re huge fans of Green People and use their products daily. I completely trust them with my own and my family’s skin and dental care.

Jonah’s teeth came through on Christmas day 2016 when he was just over 6 months old. As with most babies, it was the bottom two at the front to come through first.

We started brushing Jonah’s teeth everyday since he cut his first tooth.

Although I use fluoride toothpaste on myself, I don’t want to use fluoride toothpaste on Jonah. So I chose his toothpaste very carefully. On one hand, I consider fluoride a beneficial ingredient to help with tooth decay. On the other hand, Jonah is too young to know to spit his toothpaste. The EWG recommendation is to avoid fluoride on children under 2 years old.

Fluoride is not the only worry, as many toothpastes contain undesirable ingredients like PEGs, SLS, etc.

The NHS recommends that babies use a fluoride toothpaste. However, fluoride is a neurotoxin. Babies are more susceptible to developing fluorosis, which in mild cases causes white flecks on the teeth, and in more severe cases, leads to tooth mottling.

Scientists disagree on its safety. Studies remain in contradiction. A quick Google causes even more confusion! It doesn’t make sense to use a toxic substance in this way on someone so young.

Many dentists say the benefits outweigh the risks, but are they overlooking the wider view?

What we need is a gentle, fluoride-free, baby-safe toothpaste.

Green People Children Spearmint and Aloe Toothpaste contains no harsh foaming agents. It’s Ecocert certified organic and contains no nasties whatsoever.

Jonah seems to love its natural and mild minty taste. It’s completely safe to swallow so is ideal for toddlers and babies.

The colour of the toothpaste is a bit grey but shows the toothpaste has been manufactured without unnecessary whitening agents like titanium dioxide.

  1. Although I don’t have children myself I will definitely recommend this to my family that do. Looks like a great brand and natural products are so much better than commercial ones. Great post!

    1. Thanks so much! I agree totally, I couldn’t use toothpastes from big brands with all those nasties in.

  2. Is this in stores yet? I dont think I have seen it but my daughter is two and it would be great to go to a toothpaste with natural ingredients and of course.

    1. If you’re in the US, it’s on Amazon. We’re in the UK so I’m not sure which stores would stock this. It’s a lovely toothpaste, my son really likes it.

  3. Oooh! We’ve YET to try this! Right now we use TOMS but we’re looking for something different

    1. It’s nice to try a few isn’t it? We’ve never used TOMS but we like Jack n’ Jill, which is another natural brand. Thanks for reading!

  4. I don’t have kids, but this sounds like a great product! The ingredients are amazing.

    1. I agree, I love all the beneficial ingredients in this toothpaste. You never get that in mainstream products as they just want to offer the cheapest product.

  5. Thank you for this! I have been thinking about switching to something more natural. This looks like a great one to start with

    1. It’s a great toothpaste for littles ones, I am sure they will love it!

  6. This looks like a great toothpaste, but I do think having fluoride in your toothpaste is quite important. I’m all for removing it from drinking water because ingesting it has been proven to be harmful and it does very little for teeth, but the fluoride in toothpaste actually is quite helpful and doesn’t have the same harmful effects since you spit it out.

    1. Great point, Dan. I agree fluoride can be helpful in toothpaste, I use it myself. With my son in particular I do have a problem since my son just eats the toothpaste! When he’s older I might change his toothpaste to a fluoride version.
