LoveLula August 2018 Beauty Box review

LoveLula August 2018 Beauty Box review

In this post, I’m sharing my review of the LoveLula August 2018 Beauty Box. This will probably be my last LoveLula box review until after our baby is born, as I’ll be focusing on pregnancy related beauty and health posts. I’m so excited for it!

August’s beauty box features one of LoveLula’s most requested products for the box and contains 6 natural beauty products, 2 of which are full size. It’s worth £55, but costs just £13.95 as a subscriber.

Let’s see what’s inside!

Disclosure: I received the LoveLula August 2018 Beauty Box to review by LoveLula, but my opinions are honest and my own.

Mádara Brightening AHA Peel Mask

LoveLula’s most requested box item and such a fantastic product to include! So many bloggers and natural beauty lovers simply adore this natural face mask. I already own a tube and use it maybe once a month.

First up in LoveLula August 2018 Beauty Box review. It's Mádara Brightening AHA Peel Mask.

I personally prefer a mechanical exfoliator – not because it’s any more effective, but because I’m pretty intolerant of any stinging or tingling sensations on my face. If you’ve never tried a chemical exfoliator before, try it and see how your skin responds.

I love the effects of this mask – it brightens, smoothes, and creates a nice clean slate for skincare products. Age spots and lines are minimised, and it helps to unclog blackheads and handle breakouts.

The mask contains bountiful vitamin C sourced from quince fruit, along with AHAs from lactic acid, and soothing elderflower.

Definitely a winning box item!

Bowe Organics Lash Oil

Isn’t this an unusual product? I’ve never used lash oil before, and I’m new to Bowe Organics. The lash oil is a combination of jojoba and rosehip oils and castor seed oil – age-old remedies for thinning hair. Indeed, thicker and longer lashes are amongst the benefits claimed.

Bowe Organics Lash Oil

This light but rich oil doesn’t go on too thickly, although it is a bit fiddly to apply with finger tips. It’s best applied at night for obvious reasons – I’m not sure how well mascara would stick after applying it.

On the downside, it contains tocopherol acetate, an ingredient I generally avoid. Let me explain why. Tocopherol is a natural ingredient – it’s just vitamin E. But tocopherol acetate is vitamin E that’s been altered by mixing it with acetic acid – the main constituent of vinegar. So it could be irritating to the skin.

Although it’s deemed safe to use in cosmetics, one or more animal studies showed tumour formation at high doses. If you head over to EWG you’ll see there are also contamination concerns.

So why do so many natural beauty products contain it? Well, the risk is probably quite low. Tocopherol acetate is cheaper than pure natural vitamin E (tocopherol), and its inclusion increases the shelf life of the product.

Read about tocopherol acetate, the potentially irritating ingredient, over on Ann Marie Gianni to make your own mind up.

I don’t worry about using products containing it now and again. But I don’t make a habit of buying such products, just in case. So many alternatives exist!

Anyway, let’s return from the ingredients rabbit hole and come back to the lash oil. It’s fab! My lashes are so soft after using it. We will see if it helps to thicken and lengthen them over time.

Pure & Light Revitalising Facial Exfoliation Mini

I was so pleased to find this travel-size mini in the August box – I love a good exfoliator! But wait, it’s actually a dual-action exfoliating cleanser!

Pure & Light Revitalising Facial Exfoliation

It has some very lovely ingredients indeed – 32 no less, including immortelle, rose, ylang-ylang, antioxidant berry extracts, as well as hyaluronic acid and silica. The cleanser aims to help us achieve youthful and radiant skin.

The cleanser can’t be used to remove makeup, since it’s unsuitable for use around the eye area – so I just use it in the morning. It has a light and natural fragrance. The texture is creamy without being greasy, and it contains small particles of almond to gently buff the surface of the skin.

You really should see all the ingredients in this lovely cleanser. Amazing!

I’ll definitely be considering this natural cleanser for a future purchase as it feels very luxurious and contains some really beneficial ingredients.

Gallinée Hydrating Face Cream Mini

Another travel-size mini – this time it’s a lovely hydrating face cream from an interesting French brand that recently appeared on LoveLula. The reason this brand interests me is that their products focus on supporting skin’s natural bacteria.

Gallinée Hydrating Face Cream

This face cream contains a combination of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics. It has sunscreens to prevent damage to skin, along with antioxidant myrtle extract. Tocopherol acetate appears in the ingredients also, which I would rather was just plain tocopherol.

The cream claims to create a healthy glow, hydrate, tone, and leave skin looking luminous. Like other products in the range, it helps support skin’s good bacteria.

I love that this cream is unfragranced. It feels rich and creamy but it’s not at all greasy. My skin is left soft, comfortable, and well hydrated. I do feel my skin is more radiant after using it – lovely!

I’ve got a couple of Gallinée products in my stash, so stay in touch for a brand spotlight and introduction to some of the lovely products.

Gallinée Hand Cream Mini

This little hand cream goes with the Gallinée face cream. It has some similar benefits and ingredients such as the good-bacteria supporting biotics, and sun protection. It also contains shea butter to nourish and daisy extract to brighten the skin.

Gallinée Hand Cream

It’s lightly fragranced, and the scent is quite pleasant. It does a lovely job of moisturising dry hands and feet without weighing skin down or taking ages to absorb – perfect if you’re in a hurry. The fine lines on my hands seemed plumped after using it, and the silky feel lasted until I next washed my hands.

A lovely hand cream that has great short- and long-term skincare benefits.

Kimberly Sayer Ultra Light Facial Moisturiser Sample

I was so pleased to see this ultra-light moisturiser in the box! When I was choosing a high-SPF moisturiser before our holiday earlier this year, I was so tempted to buy this. Everybody raves about how good it is!

Kimberly Sayer Ultra Light Facial Moisturiser Sample

Instead, I chose the richer Kimberly Sayer Daily Moisturizing Cream, since it doesn’t contain tocopherol acetate. I was a bit gutted, as I knew the lighter version would be better for my skin type. It’s aimed at combination, oily, and blemish-prone skin.

Anyway, it turns out Kimberly Sayer has reformulated this moisturiser so it no longer contains tocopherol acetate – I’m really happy about it!

The lightly lemon-scented moisturiser is so thin and lightweight. It’s really easy to apply and sinks in fast with no greasy after-feel, yet it still provides all day hydration. I am so surprised how a moisturiser this light can give me such soft skin!

The moisturiser is SPF30, but it doesn’t leave a white cast on the skin. You really wouldn’t know it’s high SPF.

It has nourishing shea, soothing aloe, and protective rosemary leaf extract.

The full-size bottle comes in a handy pump dispenser that I’ve read lasts a long time.

You can pick up a sample for just 25p, so I’d highly recommend giving it a go. I hear nothing but good about this product!

    1. They’re such lovely products, and it’s great some are full size! I’m really enjoying the lash oil.

  4. I’m really torn about the lash oil. I need something to help my poor lashes, yet I am recently drawn to the idea of using only EWG approved products.

    1. You can always use EWG to check individual ingredients in products and make your own assessment. Or you could use pure rosehip oil mixed with castor oil. That way you don’t get the tocopherol acetate which has an amber warning on EWG. I hope you find something to help!

  5. This beauty looks and sounds amazing! I would totally love it. 🙂
