Balmonds skincare – calm & clear skin

Balmonds skincare

As an eczema and psoriasis sufferer, Balmonds skincare has been on my radar for some time. When I learned they were looking for bloggers with troubled skin to try their range, I naturally jumped at the chance.

Balmonds began with a mother so desperate to find an effective, non-steroidal moisturiser for her daughter’s painful skin that she ended up making one herself.

I’ve suffered with psoriasis since about 6 years old. My skin has always had a patch of it somewhere. Usually it affects my scalp, hairline, and elbows, but little dots flare up all over when I’m stressed.

Since becoming a parent, I developed dyshidrotic eczema on my hands. It seems to have been triggered by the frequency of washing up and laundry, but it may have been hormonal. Rubber gloves also trigger it. It’s hard to pin down a cause. But I end up with tiny incredibly itchy blisters on my hands and fingers that eventually dry up, but crack and become very sore, especially in winter. My feet also suffer very bad dry skin in winter.

My mum suffers with psoriasis too, much worse than me. Luckily, my children seem free of it so far. My husband has very happy skin so I’m hoping they inherited it!

In the past I’ve used coal tar products and topical steroids to manage my skin problems. But, obviously, as a natural beauty blogger I have tried very many balms and potions on my psoriasis and eczema. Skincare, in my case, is not going to cure my skin problems, but it does help to manage them.

Balms and rich creams are key for me. So trying Balmonds skincare really got me excited, since it’s designed specifically for people with eczema, psoriasis, or any troubled skin.

Natalie Balmond tried many skincare products on her daughter, but they just made her skin worse. I love that Natalie took the bull by the horns and made her own skincare range to help her daughter. It is truly inspiring.

Balmonds skincare – gentle yet powerful

The great thing about Balmonds skincare is that it contains no preservatives or fragrances. In my opinion, I find these have the potential to be the most irritating. You’ll find no controversial ingredients such as parabens, PEGs, SLS, etc.

All the products are just what you need when you’re suffering – hydrating, safe, effective, nourishing, and protective. These products multitask, and each has several uses.

Let’s look at the individual products I tried and see how we got on.

Balmonds Skin Salvation – a pot of wonder!

This is Balmonds flagship balm and it promises to keep skin soft, supple, and soothed by locking in moisture and providing essential nutrients. It’s perfect for those with psoriasis, eczema and even for children from 6 weeks old. It’s a rich, thick, water-free balm made with beeswax, organic hemp seed, safflower, and olive oils which help dry skin by replenishing essential fatty acids (EFAs).

You can use this anywhere on the body to lock in moisture. Its natural ingredients reduce the risk of skin irritation from synthetic additives. And I love that it doesn’t sting at all – great if you’re using it to treat little children.

What sets this balm apart for me is the ingredients – biodynamic calendula, nettle, chickweed, and chamomile heal and soothe and have been used in skincare for centuries.

Does Balmonds Skin Salvation work?

In a word – yes! Especially if you’ve not tried using any products on your eczema-prone skin yet, or you’re switching from very clinical formulations that don’t offer any nutritive value to your skin.

Skin Salvation is the balm I reach for when my skin is distressed. I apply it daily to my hands, feet and any patches of psoriasis. I feel like it protects my hands against the frequent water exposure that leaves them so raw. It definitely soothes itching, which is brilliant when I need quick relief and don’t want to reach for steroid cream.

Skin Salvation hasn’t completely healed my skin, but I don’t expect it to. It has helped to fade away the appearance of my psoriasis, and has stopped the itch-scratch cycle on my hands so they look and feel a lot less raw. It’s made the skin on my feet more supple and healed the little snaggy bits that pull on the carpet!

Consistency is key with all skincare treatments, so if you’re currently battling with eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis, keep on applying your products. You cannot over-apply and any results can take a while to show.

All in all, I really love this balm and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Skin Salvation to treat any dry skin condition. It really is a bit of magic in a jar!

Balmonds Daily Moisturising Cream – hydrating and protecting

This moisturising cream is a real treasure. It’s basically Skin Salvation formulated with water, without beeswax and with shea butter instead. The water component means it will hydrate skin all on its own. This one is vegan friendly, too.

Children from from 6 weeks old can use it, too. I use it all over my body since it’s such a good hydrator. I’ve used it as a body moisturiser, face moisturiser, hand cream – you can also use it as a cleanser although I haven’t tried it that way.

I absolutely love this cream! It’s fantastic to use on the go since it absorbs much faster than Skin Salvation. It makes a great companion product to Skin Salvation for a quick moisture top up.

Balmonds Scalp Oil to treat stressed scalps

A fragrant oil to treat hair and scalp with a blend of hemp, borage, nettle, calendula, and chickweed oils. Hair-loving tea tree and rosemary essential oils are a great addition to the formula. This scalp oil promises clean, healthy and hydrated hair while taking care of scalp psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema or dandruff. It can be used from 3 years of age.

And it’s actually good for many things. You can lavish dry beards, crispy moustaches, and parched cuticles with the oil. Use it as a spot-busting treatment. Or maybe a cooling soak/rub for sore, hot feet. Or even as an inhalation oil.

So far I’ve used this as a scalp conditioning treatment only. At the moment my scalp psoriasis is under control, there are hardly any patches. I wish I had this after Cara was born when my scalp was terrible!

The oil is easy to apply directly to the scalp, and the fragrance is clean, fresh, and herbal. I also really like that the oil is quite easy to wash out from the scalp and hair.

Although I can’t comment how good this works on a troubled scalp right now, I know this is a good oil to consider if you suffer with troubled skin on your scalp. I’ll be sure to update in my empties once I’ve used the product over a longer period.

Balmonds Bath and Body Oil is a soothing addition to your tub

Finally, let’s look at Balmonds Bath and Body Oil. This one is really lovely and like most oils can be used several ways. As a deliciously scented massage oil after a bath or shower, or actually in the bath water. It works well as a cleansing facial oil to remove grime, too. Or use it as a baby oil for bathing or changing (from 6 weeks of age).

Key ingredients include organic calendula to heal and nourish, and lavender and chamomile to soothe, calm and protect. All in a base of skin-nourishing safflower and hemp seed oil to improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

So far I’ve used this as a body massage oil only. It’s one of the best oils I’ve tried for locking in moisture to the skin. After a few days of use the skin on my arms felt much smoother and less irritated by my clothing. I’m also going to try adding a few drops to my bath for extra nourishing. A fantastic oil that makes a real difference to dry skin!
