May 2020 natural beauty empties

Welcome back, beauty lover! And welcome to my May 2020 natural beauty empties! May has been a good month for empties. I have loved them all – well, except for one – you’ll see which. And there are some definite repurchases from some of my most beloved brands.

There’s an amazing anti-ageing face cream with ingredients that read from your superfood store-cupboard, sumptuous cleansing butter with carrot and mango, a gentle vitamin C serum that’s great for beginners, and a body lotion that promises to boost emotional wellbeing – and much more!

I really hope you enjoy them! Are you ready? Let’s begin!

Mádara Supreme Hydration Body Lotion

This is an interesting body lotion – it claims to improve emotional wellbeing. Scientifically, it’s hard to say whether it works – however the placebo effect is strong!

Faith in Nature Hemp Soap

My kind husband bought me this soap for my birthday. Not quite the skincare I was hoping for, dear – but I was grateful and loved it all the same!

Mill Creek Botanicals Biotene H-24 Natural Shampoo

I finished this shampoo in May – but like most I finished the conditioner earlier. It featured in my empties last month where I reviewed them both – please do go take a look if you’re in the market for a natural thickening shampoo and conditioner.

This interesting body scrub featured in the LoveLula May 2019 Beauty Box review. It contains some wonderful botanical ingredients such as sea kelp, frankincense and clary sage.

Mádara Brightening AHA Peel Mask

This came in the LoveLula August 2018 Beauty Box. I really wish I’d tried other chemical exfoliants before trying this one, since it needlessly put me off chemical exfoliants for a long time.

Mádara Brightening AHA Peel Mask

My skin had a hard time tolerating this mask. It stings the moment it goes on. It’s weird because other Mádara products I’ve tried are so gentle.

  1. I must admit, I need to take better care of my skin and you have given me so many great options. I will definitely start with Balmonds!

  2. Ohhh I love the idea of the cleansing butter. I have so many barely used products that just do not live up to expectation. On the look out for your recommendations.

  3. You finished so many products, I’m trying to make a dent in my samples actually, I don’t want products to expire anymore

  4. Lovely review! I don’t know why my phone doesn’t give me an option to like posts, it is frustrating!
I am totally with you on a lot of products, love the neroli water and faith in nature is my favourite for hand washing because it stays in shape and lathers so well (and some shops do it without packaging which is even better!). And same for the madara peel, I love Madara products but this one made my skin burn and gave me a bad reaction. It has also put me off chemical peels. But my skin can be quite sensitive so I am not that surprised!
Quick question: why do you avoid phenoxyethanol? It seems to be in a lot o natural products.

    1. Thanks Camille! My ‘like’ button is broken, I need to fix it. Glad you like the neroli water and Faith in Nature soap, they are great!

Phenoxyethanol is a controversial ingredient for me. I started to avoid it when I started feeding my son 4 years ago and didn’t go back. I know current research suggests it’s safe used at 1% concentrations or less, and of course its role as a preservative is so useful. On the other hand, in 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled it as unsafe for breastfeeding infants, due to concerns about how it affects their central nervous system. I don’t mind it for wash off products. See https://www.healthline.com/health/phenoxyethanol and on the flip side https://www.paulaschoice.com/ingredient-dictionary/preservatives/phenoxyethanol.html. I don’t wish to scaremonger re ingredients, it’s just a personal choice. Xx

  5. The The Rose Tree Carrot & Mango Cleansing Butter sounds absolutely amazing! Now I need to check if it’s available in Canada!

  6. Good summary! I’m definitely going to try the skin food. I liked the faith in nature soap idea, but saw that the top ingredient was palm oil, which harvesting is super detrimental to the environment and to the animals whose habitats are lost. I would avoid that product.
