Welcome back, skincare friend! Today the focus is on a very lovely brand I’ve known about for a while but only recently had the pleasure of trying – it’s Poppy’s Natural Skincare!

I was over the moon when Poppy introduced herself over on Instagram. We chatted about skincare and my skin, which was lovely. Poppy very kindly asked if I’d like to try her award winning natural skincare. Of course, I jumped at the chance.

And when it came to Poppy’s attention that I have psoriasis on my scalp (currently under control), elbows (a little sore) and eczema on my hands (water filled blisters, itchiness, redness, soreness), she was eager to talk with me on the phone about my skin conditions.

Of course it was lovely to chat with Poppy on the phone and our conversation went beyond skincare into family, work and more.

It was interesting to learn how Poppy suffered with eczema herself as a child and was slathered in a rich neem paste by her family to help soothe the itching. Her son also suffers with eczema, and it was in her quest to help ease this skin condition that Poppy’s Natural Skincare came into life. Poppy’s background is in molecular cell biology, which gives her a solid scientific background and, like me, she is passionate about the healing powers of natural ingredients.

Following our consultation and sending some photos of my skin, Poppy recommended two of her products for me to try – her luscious Super Moisturising Organic Body Butter in unfragranced, and the Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm.

Poppy also gave me specific skin care advice to follow, including protecting my skin with gloves, and using only unfragranced skincare products.

Would you like to hear more about the products and how we got on? Let’s find out!

Poppy’s Natural Skincare

All Poppy’s products are British made and cruelty free. Some products are vegan, others contain natural beeswax sourced from local suppliers.

Super Moisturising Organic Body Butter Unfragranced

Poppy recommended this gorgeous moisturising body butter to treat the dry skin all over my body. It promises to deeply moisturise skin with unrefined shea, mango and cocoa butters. It has no added fragrance so it’s perfect for sensitive skin.

Poppy's Super Moisturising Organic Body Butter Unfragranced

Ingredients – Poppy’s Body Butter

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), mangifera indica (mango butter), cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, theobroma cacao (cocoa) butter, prunus dulcis (almond) oil, tocopherol acetate (vitamin E).

My experience with Poppy’s Body Butter

I use the spatula included to scoop a small amount of this creamy butter from the plastic jar. It’s lightly whipped and softly melting – a little goes a long way! The natural aroma of the butter is quite strong, the shea and cocoa butters smell really comforting to me. If shea isn’t your thing, you might find it a bit strong!

I always use water free balms on damp skin, this helps to hydrate the skin by locking moisture in and forming a barrier to prevent water loss. I see balms as a slow skincare investment. Like all other balms, Poppy’s takes a while to sink in, but does a great job of moisturising dry skin. I take my time and enjoy it!

A few minutes after application my skin feels so soft and comforted, and remains so throughout the day. I especially love using it on my elbows where my psoriasis flares. It works so well on my feet that crack if I don’t moisturise them. I also use it on my shins and forearms, as they really suffer with winter dryness.

With regular use my skin feels soft and supple. The patches of psoriasis on my elbows are comfortable and less scaly. I also use the body butter on my daughter who gets dry skin behind her ears and on her arms.

I’m really happy with Poppy’s Body Butter! It certainly is super moisturising – a power house body butter to add to my skincare collection.

Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm

Poppy’s customers use this balm to reduce itching and topical steroid use. The beautiful golden balm contains organic neem (soothing and healing), borage (treats redness, inflammation, and moisture loss), chickweed (reduces itching), and soothing chamomile to comfort and soften dry skin, relieve itching, and protect the skin.

Poppy's Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm

Ingredients – Poppy’s Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm

Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, cera alba (beeswax), calendula officinalis, stellaria media (chickweed), borago officinalis (borage) oil, melia azadirachta (neem), anthemis nobilis (chamomile) flower oil, tocopherol acetate (vitamin E), pelargonium graveolens (geranium) leaf oil, d-limonene, linalol, geraniol, citronellol, citral.

My experience with Poppy’s Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm

It was love at first sniff of this wonderful balm! I reach for it every time my hand flare and get itchy and it certainly helps to break the itch scratch cycle so typical of eczema.

I use a spatula to remove a small amount of the balm from the dark glass jar. The balm is really concentrated and melts into the skin. Like the body butter, I try to apply this balm to damp skin, especially after water exposure when washing up or after washing my hands for the hundredth time! I use it several times a day and especially after being outdoors which is a big trigger for the eczema on my hands.

The balm sinks in wonderfully and leaves my skin fragrant, soft, and comforted. It’s an effective balm for short term relief and for the long term health of my skin, too. I definitely recommend this to anybody with a dry and itchy skin condition.
