To my dear Jonah,

I almost didn’t write this letter.

Life has been so busy recently.

I couldn’t think of anything to write about.

After all, the baby and toddler years move so fast, but when kids get older, things often move in less visible ways.

You’re my eldest, so I experience parenthood first hand with you. You’re my only boy and autistic, so I often wonder what is normal and what is not. But, this is a funny age where you feel so grown up to me, and yet you can instantly be a child again.

It’s an in-between age. And it can be so challenging, but on the other hand—beautiful and ever so rewarding. Sometimes I feel like I’m talking down to you, and at others I feel like you need my guidance more than ever.

More and more, you seem to understand adult concepts and feelings. It should come as no surprise, but your body is starting to change too. Signs of puberty are coming. I’m not sure if I’m ready for my little boy to be grown up!

One thing’s for sure, you’re never afraid to be you. I love you for that.

This year has been a strange one. We lost your grandma, which was so sad. While we held it together as a family, remembering and honouring Grandma Irene helped us to get through.

Apart from losing your grandma, I think you’ve had a great year.

You’ve been a stand up member of the family, playing with your sisters, and cheering them up with your silliness.

You love all your sisters so much, although you struggle to show it sometimes—especially when they’re making a lot of noise and overstimulating you. Your love of your youngest sister Eleanor is so adorable.

Jonah loves Ellie so much!

Your hard work and dedication at school has been exemplary this year. But you also had fun too, completing the colour run, swimming, and school trips.

I enjoyed coming to spend time with you at school making a scarab beetle on your enrichment day, and doing laser tag on your “bring-your-parent-to-PE” day.

For your birthday, we took a trip to Whitby. It was so much fun staying overnight in a three-storey house just for us. In December, we had a Christmas visit to a big country house in Scotland, and you loved it.

You tried go-carting for the first time and you were the youngest there, I was so proud of you for driving a go-cart!

Go-carting was so much fun!

Boys’ club has been huge for you this year. I was so proud when you picked up an award for your dedication to attending each week.

Roblox is your favourite thing to do. Whether it’s fishing in “Fisch” or growing giant coconut plants in “Grow A Garden“. Honestly, you’d play it all day if you could.

I love how you’re always on the bleeding edge of what is current for kids. You were in to “Italian Brain Rot” and “Skibidi Toilet”, way before anybody else and you always give me something new to worry about, and in turn, inspiration for new content on my blog about the things kids like.

Skibidi Jonah

Jonah, thank you for making me proud of you, even when life is hard, you are the light in my life, reminding me to have fun, be happy, and live in the moment.

Handsome boy!

I’m so glad I decided to write this letter to you, Jonah. And I can’t wait for another year together.

Love from muuuuuuummmmmmyy!
