Welcome back to the series where we share the best baby skincare. In this post, we’re sharing the best baby skincare products for 2024.
Naturally, every parent wants the best skincare for their baby. But how do we select only the safest and kindest skincare for our baby? Especially since there’s such a huge selection of skincare products available for babies now. After all, we’re trusting brands with the care of our precious baby’s skin.
To choose only the best baby skincare, parents must look carefully at several factors.
- Brand trust. Has the baby skincare brand been around for a while and do others rate it well? Look for social clues – good reviews, comments on social media, etc.
- Ingredients. Does the brand focus on traditionally used ingredients in baby skincare, such as lavender, calendula, and shea butter?
- Certification. Are there any organic certifications that underpin the brand’s commitment to care and sustainability? Look for COSMOS (Soil Association), EcoCert, NaTrue, or B Corp.
- App verification. Think Dirty, and apps like it, verify the potential safety of skincare products.
This way you can be sure as possible that you’re making the best choices in baby skincare.
A baby skincare routine is essential
A common question on social media is do babies even need a skin care routine? Our answer is always, they absolutely do. We’re not suggesting a 7-step routine, but hear us out.
Without a baby skincare routine, your little one’s delicate skin could easily be damaged by the wind, wet, sun, and cold. Not surprisingly, the collagen fibres in your baby’s skin are smaller and weaker than yours. In colder months, wrapping her up and using a good barrier cream is a minimum routine you can follow.
In warmer months, you can lightly clothe your baby to protect her skin. Always use a mineral sunscreen especially formulated for children. Applying a moisturiser after sun exposure is also a great idea to replace lost moisture and maintain a healthy skin barrier.
For newborns, use minimal products and avoid heavily fragranced products for the first few months.
Still not convinced that babies need a skincare routine? Here’s why:
- Baby skin is more susceptible to dryness, and it loses water more quickly.
- The delicate skin of a baby is more likely to suffer from damage caused by the environment.
- In babies, the stratum corneum (outermost layer of the skin) can break down more easily. This can lead to atopic dermatitis, allergies, and sensitivities.
Undoubtedly, taking care of your baby’s skin is a beautiful way for both of you to bond. So let’s dive straight in to the best baby skincare products for 2024!

Best baby moisturiser to soothe baby skin
When it comes to baby moisturisers, seek out those that are specially made for infants. Look for super-caring ingredients like glycerin, emollients like oils and fatty alcohols, and occlusives such as cocoa or shea butters and beeswax. Baby balm and salve
Generally balms, salves, and butters are super versatile and really concentrated. Whenever a problem arises, you can use them to protect little lips, noses, and hands against the elements. Also try them to alleviate dry skin, and treat bumps and bruises. Furthermore, you can also use balms on the nappy area, flaky scalps, or melt a spoonful into a warm bath for a winter treat. Lastly, remember to slather them over your own hands after hand washing!
- Bramley Little B Magic Balm (£10 for 15g, Bramley) this balm kisses bumps, scrapes, and dry skin goodbye with its lovely blend of shea, cucumber, clementine, and lavender.

Best for scalp care
Caring for your little one’s scalp is important to ensure their comfort and protection. Remember, cradle cap can look distressing, but it’s harmless and normally clears up on its own over time. Some parents use a plant-based oil to soften the scales before exfoliating them gently with a baby hairbrush or comb. Dryness is common too, so use a light moisturising scalp cream to add moisture back.
- Kokoso Sensitive Scalp Set (£19.99, Kokoso) includes their Happy Scalp Cream, their multipurpose coconut oil, and a baby hairbrush. The perfect trio to care of your baby’s scalp.
- Green People Baby Bath Set (£24, Green People) contains their Lavender Baby Wash & Shampoo and a cute baby comb and brush set to help lift scales. Use it with their Rescue Balm to soften the scales first.
Best baby sunscreen
Use a mineral sunscreen on your baby from 6 months old. Crucially, if your baby is younger than 6 months, cover her appropriately and keep her out of the sun. It’s good to know that controversy is rife over the safety of chemical sunscreens, so take the worry out of the choice by sticking to mineral sunscreens.
- Suntribe Baby & Kids Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF30 (£24.99 for 100ml, Suntribe) a scientifically validated broad spectrum sunscreen especially for kids to protect against UVA and UVB rays. Water resistant, reef safe, and has a delicious vanilla scent.
- Sunly Kids Sunscreen SPF30 (£24.50 for 60g, Naturisimo) plastic-free and ideal for travel, this handy sunscreen stick provides broad spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays. It’s unfragranced and suitable for even the most sensitive baby skin.
Best baby powder
Unsurprisingly, baby powder is not as popular as it once was. Nonetheless it’s a useful item to have in your baby’s skincare collection, especially if you need to dry your baby quickly and thoroughly. Talc-free baby powders are the way to go and include corn starch and various soothing clays such as kaolin.
- Bamford Baby Chamomile Body Powder (£17 for 100g, Naturisimo) comes super-fine, and with soothing chamomile it’s perfect after bathing or messy play!
Best baby sponges
Use a baby skincare sponge to gently but effectively clean your baby’s skin. Certainly, their size and shape make them ideal to clean hard-to-reach areas. Furthermore their texture makes bath time a soothing and calming experience.
- Pure Konjac Baby Bath Sponge (£8.93 for one, The Konjac Sponge Company) a soft, gentle, and plant-based option perfect for babies and children.
- Natural Sea Baby Sponge (£5.50 for one, Ellie-Fant) a sustainably harvested, soft and absorbent sea sponge to gently clean and exfoliate.
- Ramer Ultra Soft Baby Sponges (£3.15 for two, Ramer Sponges) unsurprisingly, Ramer sponges aren’t natural, as they’re made from PVA. But Ramer songes are biodegradable, and extremely long lasting because they dry hard and resist bacterial growth. They make a great vegan synthetic alternative to sea sponges.

Baby eczema can be devastatingly hard to treat, and tracing its causes can be complex. These products all deserve a huge shout out for helping babies and their parents soothe and calm this distressing skin condition.

- Balmonds create affordable skincare especially for children with dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin.
Best baby bedtime and soothing sprays
Last up in our best baby skincare products for 2024, is sprays. These gorgeous products are often based on traditionally produced rose or lavender waters. Use them to gently cleanse your baby while hydrating their skin. Alternatively, spritz them on to your baby’s bedding to build positive sleep associations and bring about a restful sleep.
- Little Aurelia Sleep Time Pillow Mist (£10 for 100ml, Aurelia) this ultra-fine mist will relax both of you before bed. With neroli, lavender, and rose quartz crystal water for true peacefulness.
- Organii Fresh Scented Water (£8.95 for 125ml, Organii) to keep your little one smelling fresh, with soothing mallow, calming calendula, and cornflower to reduce redness.
- Alteya Organic Kids and Baby Aromatic Mist (£8.70 for 110ml, Amazon) is made with Bulgarian rose water to calm and soothe your little one. As it contains glycerine, it won’t dry out their skin. It’s also antibacterial – so it’s great for little clean ups on the go.
