I have a confession to make.

As a beauty blogger, I spend so much time researching skincare ingredients and questioning beauty claims. But when it came to laundry, I just blindly trusted the big brands!

I assumed those enormous plastic bottles, strong fragrances, and familiar names meant a better wash.

And I’m a little embarrassed that I never questioned it!

Then I discovered GreenSheets by Green Co. And these unassuming sheets have me genuinely surprised. They actually wash really well!

Now, I’ll be upfront. My clothes don’t have that powerful just-washed fragrance I was used to. But it got me thinking…

When did we start confusing smelling clean with being clean?

GreenSheets don’t rely on optical brighteners to make clothes appear whiter, either.

The Problem

Did you know, the UK laundry industry generates approximately 10,791 tonnes of plastic packaging waste each year? [1] That’s insane, right?

But, I hear you say: “I put my plastic waste into recycling”. Well, good for you! And me too. But did you know that only 12-16% of that actually goes on to be reused? [2] Shocking, isn’t it?

Clearly, we need alternatives. Completely plastic-free alternatives!

And that’s where GreenSheets from Green Co come in. This UK-based company, which once started life as a school project, is revolutionising how we do our laundry so that we can stop using so much plastic in the first place.

GreenSheets.

Laundry Detergent Sheets

These nature‑powered non-bio laundry sheets make it easier to care for the planet, your clothes, and your health.

The laundry detergent sheets.
It’s your laundry detergent, but in a sheet format!

They’re absolutely ingenious aren’t they?

Effective yet gentle on skin, they’re made with plant-based ingredients, zero toxic chemicals, and are vegan and cruelty-free.

What’s great about these sheets is that despite being gentle, they work really quite well on stains and stubborn grime.

With four kids and a demanding laundry routine, I can attest to their effectiveness—especially on short cycles. I’m loving that they leave my laundry clean and fresh, and my conscience clear!

Fragrance Options

You can choose from fresh linen, lavender, and un-fragranced varieties. I went for fresh linen, and it’s really lovely. The scent is subtle and natural, and not at all like the overwhelming fragrance you get with many laundry products these days. The sheets are perfect if you’re scent-sensitive, for example while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Talking of which, they’re hypoallergenic approved and suitable for the whole family, including babies.

There are two pack sizes to choose from and you can even get a trial pack of 4 sheets so you can try before you buy.

Each pack contains 60 sheets—enough for 60 washes. Thankfully, there’s no need for those little plastic cups, no potential for spills when the kids run in and bump your arm, and no guesswork or working out the dose. Just tear, and go. And if you find that one sheet isn’t cutting it—for instance if you have a particularly large or dirty load, or if you live in a hard water area, just add another sheet.

They’re good for all kinds of washing machines, and septic tanks.

The pack comes in a flat box which sure saves a lot of space in the cupboard. They’re handy for travel too!

The cost? From only 19p per load! Amazing…and you can pick up a sample for just 95p! What are you waiting for? There’s even a money-back guarantee so you have nothing to lose (other than the plastic, of course!)

Just pop one straight into the drum before you put the washing in. On a short wash you can even pop one of these and the fabric conditioner sheet in together—super handy!

What I like about these laundry sheets:

  • Absolutely no plastic
  • Easy to use
  • Great clean rivals the performance of powder
  • Perfect for travel, lightweight and water-free
  • Subtle scent

What I don’t like:

  • Occasionally, I’ve found a sheet stuck to the inside of the drum not completely dissolved
  • Nothing else!

If this doesn’t convince you to make the switch, they were also voted Best Buy by the Independent in 2023.

Fabric Conditioner GreenSheets

With the same green credentials and ease of use as the GreenSheets Laundry Detergent, are these nifty fabric softener sheets!

Fabric conditioner sheets

These come in two fragrances to pair with the laundry detergent sheets: fresh linen, and lavender. The fragrance is mild and delicate, but you can use two to boost the scent if you fancy it.

From just 12p per wash, think soft, static-free, and delicately scented clothes, with none of the plastic waste. What a relief!

In a long cycle, you fold the sheet and put it in the usual fabric conditioner drawer.

When I first started to use the fabric conditioner sheets I was finding that sometimes they weren’t dissolving fully. To get around this, I add a splash of water to the drawer before closing it to help the sheet to dissolve.

I love that the company started as a school project, and grew into something much larger. Remarkably, they went from selling at small local markets to something much larger, selling laundry products to over 100,000 customers.

Now the range includes a selection of eco-friendly laundry, cleaning sprays, dish washing, and hand soap products.

Final thoughts on Eco-Friendly Laundry with GreenSheets

GreenSheets has me questioning whether everything I thought I needed from my laundry detergent was actually necessary. I love these eco-friendly laundry and fabric softener sheets! They’re so effective and easy to use, and I feel so much better knowing I’m not using so much plastic.

Sometimes, a better routine starts with questioning an old one.
