The sun is high in the sky again so it’s time to pack up the kids and head for the beach! A day out at the seaside is one of life’s greatest joys, a wonderful time for the whole family! You can relax and catch some rays while the kids frolic in the sand and the surf, it’s one giant playground! It’s been a year since you have spent a day out on the coast, so we have assembled a brief reminder of what to take along with you to enjoy maximum beach fun in the sun!
The Beach Clothes
Of course you will all have your swimsuits, but remember those kids grow, so they will probably need to be outfitted with a new one to fit their expanded size! Don’t forget to bring everyone a towelling robe that will keep the wind off, it sometimes grows a bit chilly as it blows in off the ocean. Sun hats and sunglasses are a must, as are lightweight beach shoes to protect from sharp shells and stones, as well as that dreaded trip across the gravel parking lot that is so hostile to bare feet!
The Beach Accessories
A big beach umbrella is a must so you and the clan can take shelter from the sun between splashing sessions! Just be sure it is firmly secured to the sand so the wind doesn’t carry it away to parts unknown! Plastic pails and shovels will give the kids the tools they need to build a magnificent sandcastle that’s doomed to eventual ruin as the high tide comes to claim it! Don’t forget those big beach towels for spreading out on the sand for a nice nap.
The Food
No trip to the beach is complete without a yummy picnic packed lunch that’s ready to eat beside the sea, the sound of waves just naturally makes you hungry! It’s best to avoid time and heat sensitive foods like eggs and mayo, and go with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that can last all day sitting in the sun without breaking a sweat! Don’t forget to hydrate, be sure to bring plenty of drinking water for thirsty frolickers!
The Necessities
This brings us to our public service message, you will need a basic first aid kit for those inevitable cuts and scrapes, and high enough SPF sunscreen to cover your brood from head to toe, that’s a non negotiable for safety, plus no one wants to be nursing a bad sunburn on their way home after a day of fun!
Preparation is the key to a successful day on the beach, make sure you pack everything you need and all should be fine.
Now, go hit the beach!
