The British brand, Willow Organic, comprises mother and daughter team Sue and Tamryn Stowell. The push to create the brand was simple but profound – tapping into the rich treasure trove of powerful ingredients gifted to us by nature.

Our story is deeply rooted in the belief that nature holds the key to timeless beauty and that everyone should able to embrace ageing with confidence.

Bringing their skincare creations to the world, the Stowell’s aim is admirable: to build confidence across different generations. Furthermore, the beautiful botanical products will help everyone embrace their ageing selves. Think sustainably sourced, certified organic and natural by the Soil Association, and always with our inner resilience in mind.

With over 20 international beauty awards under its belt, the brand continues to go from strength to strength.

So, shall we take a look at this fabulous cream?

Willow Advanced Collagen Repair Cream

Willow puts forward some really hopeful claims for its Advanced Repair Cream. Indeed, the brand claims that its ingredients reduce appearance of crow’s feet, reduce naso-labial fold volume, and have a plumping effect on cheekbones. Additionally, the cream is vegan and has a large percentage of organic ingredients.

What’s more, the cream contains hyaluronic acid to increase suppleness and flexibility of skin, rosehip oil for its antioxidant vitamins A, C, E along with rosemary extract to reduce inflammation and puffiness.

The ingredients

Now, let’s take a look at the INCI:

Aqua, Glycerin*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice Powder, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Xanthan Gum, Alcohol Denat. Sodium Gluconate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Cell Extract, Cimicifuga Racemosa (Black Cohosh) Root Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract*, Maltodextrin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.

I just love this! We can see water and glycerin at the top of the INCI list, leading to coconut oil. But then we can see what looks like a large amount of rosehip oil, which is fantastic given how nutritious and packed with antioxidants it is. Additionally, gorgeous shea butter is sure to nourish and protect in this beautiful cream.

I’m super curious to learn more about some of the actives. Shall we have a little deep dive?

Black cohosh

Interestingly, Black Cohosh root contains plant-based oestrogen and boasts some amazing anti-ageing properties. According to Willow, oestrogen can be absorbed via the skin and “has a key role in maintaining the skin’s structural integrity”. It is said to help with adequate hydration, oil production, improved barrier function, and increasing collagen and elastin content.

Evening Primrose oil

Since Evening Primrose oil is a rich source of essential fatty acids and phytosterols, it’s also an anti-ageing powerhouse. It’s been shown to improve epidermal barrier function and normalise trans‐epidermal water loss (TEWL).

For research and evidence on black cohosh and evening primrose, see this paper: Effects of a combination of botanical actives on skin health and antioxidant status in post‐menopausal women.

Grape fruit cell extract

Green stem cells from grapes are rich in anthocyanins, which contain antioxidants to protect the skin from free radical damage. These grape stem cells help to delay the ageing process through their unique epigenetic factors and metabolites that work to protect human stem cells from UV radiation (source). Willow note that green stem cells combat ageing by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.

My experience using Willow Advanced Collagen Repair Cream

Willow Advanced Collagen Repair Cream comes in an elegant cardboard package. The thick frosted glass jar feels luxuriously heavy in the hand. Accordingly, the wooden cap gives way to a thick and sumptuously textured face cream. The unfragranced cream has a very mild almond-like fragrance from its natural preservative system.

Smoothing the cream over my skin, it is rich but non-greasy. There is no soaping, it sinks in well and doesn’t leave my face looking or feeling greasy. It plays well with my acid toners, serums, and face oils and natural sunscreens, and there is no pilling.

Immediate results: my skin is beautifully moisturised and feels deeply hydrated. My fine lines and wrinkles are softened. The moisture lasts most of the day.

Long term results: after using the cream for about 2 months once per day, I’m seeing plumper skin that’s more resilient to retinol usage.

I always think that with this kind of skincare we see results further down the line, almost like paying into a retirement fund for our skin.

Overall, the cream is a treat to use. My skin is calm, smooth, and hydrated – I’m really pleased with the results.
