Darling Lydia,

How time is flying now that you are four years old. It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago that you were a small baby.

Let me start this letter by telling you how much I love you, and letting you know how very proud I am of you.

Lydia is so beautiful

Love and joy come naturally to you. You’ve touched so many hearts since you were born. You’ve changed me for the better.

Lydia, you bring fun and happiness into our lives, and I’m so grateful for that. Your sweet and dreamy personality is so charming and sometimes I feel like you have adults under your spell!

You always want to chat, and we can hold real conversations just for fun now. You are highly engaging, and highly engaged with the people that you meet, and the things that you do.

You’re so special, you even help introverted me to make new mommy friends.

Family & Friendships Grow

Your bond with Cara deepens and grows every day. Jonah is not as social, but you engage with him by being so interested in what he is doing. He cannot help but engage back with you! Eleanor loves to play with you too, and watches everything that you do.

Your love for your uncle and auntie Zara is so unbelievably cute. Zara is your wonderful role model who you go to for cuddles. She bought you a lovely dress for your birthday and it made your day.

Grandma Heather is your best buddy and we visit nearly every week. You chat, cuddle, and play your favourite pretend game, cat and dog.

Sadly, 2025 was a hard year for our family as your beloved Grandma Irene passed away. You were so understanding and compassionate whilst yourself grieving. You have really helped our hearts to heal during this sad time.

You just seem to have so much love for everybody and everything, it is so contagious.

Last Year at School Nursery

You recently started at school nursery full time. It was all new to us, as you’re the first child we’ve taken a full time place for. You’ve been welcomed with open arms. The teachers have often mentioned to me how helpful and kind you are. You make me so proud every day!

Looking so cute

More importantly, you’re really enjoying it—although you are tired when you get back home. Just think, this time next year you’ll be in Reception class!

You are already adding and subtracting numbers without knowing it, practising your name, and drawing beautiful pictures every day. I know you will love it. And since you make so many friends, there will always be someone to play with.

Your Favourite Things

When it comes to your favourite things, you love to be social! You’re at your best when you’re meeting with friends and having play dates.

You love drawing and all kinds of art and creation. Of course, I love every picture you bring home for me. Playing at the park, swimming, going to cafes, you love it all.

Obviously, I am delighted that you love skincare, too! We do face masks, cleansing, face oils, and gentle moisturisers together. Cucumbers on your eyes, and you’re good to go. Oh, and makeup is a thing, too.

Mostly you can be found dancing around to music videos, pulling silly faces in mirrors, hilariously imitating family members, or chilling out watching your favourite shorts. We have so many beautiful memories of your fourth year, my darling.

Oh, and you’re still sleeping in the washing basket. You’ll definitely be too big for it soon!

Things You Did This Year

This year was the first that you went to the cinema. You saw Disney Snow White and really loved it.

Toilet training was remarkably easy and fun! I wish we’d started sooner, but there was no rush. We have to toilet train Eleanor now, and I know you will help me as The Official Big Sister!

We had the best holiday in Scotland in December. Our family rented a large country house and it was just the most festive experience. You called it “the family house”, a name which stuck for any kind of holiday in a rented house.

In June, we went on a fabulous weekend trip to Whitby. I hope you remember the lovely memories we made.

Lydia, you are the best daughter a mummy could wish for. We love you so much! Keep on being the amazing you that you are. I can’t wait to see what the next year holds in store for us.

All my love,

Mummy xxx
