To Cara Grace Oh Cara, how amazing your first year has been! You were born at home in a complete hurry, protesting very loudly. Your birth was one of the best moments of my life. We wished for a girl and I’d convinced myself you were a boy. I checked twice when I held you in my arms for the first time! You’re confident, gregarious, sweet, loving, and smart. Your first year has flown by and I can’t believe we’re saying goodbye to your babyhood. And you’ll be our last baby too, which makes it all the more poignant. Your little life is so precious. I love that you share songs and games with us. You always look to mummy and daddy for a game of peekaboo or clap hands. You can be quite studious, and you like to examine new things in great detail. Your favourite game at the…
As a mum to four little ones, I’ve used a lot of natural sunscreen for kids! From babies, to bigger kids – all tried and tested. And in this post I’m sharing the natural sunscreen for kids we’ve used the most. Step this way if high street and chemist store sunscreens irritate your children’s skin! My favourite natural sunscreens for kids are those that can be used for both adults and children. Packing just one tube saves valuable space in my bag, and a gentle mineral sunscreen works just fine for grown ups too! Peace of mind I’m using the gentlest sun protection there is. Oh, summer. We look forward to it all year, and then it’s over in a flash. But what memories we take away! Happy children playing on the beach, meals together, and whiling the day away lounging in comfy hammocks, if we’re lucky! But with extra UV…
To my dear Jonah It’s your third birthday tomorrow. You’re only 3 years old, but it feels like you’ve always been with me – isn’t that funny? The boy who made me a mummy. The boy who helped me learn how to be a mummy. I’ve made quite a few mistakes, but you always forgive me and love me. And I love you back, so much. Right now, we are each other’s world. You share my blood type, my air sign, and my love of pumpkins. I feel like you get me (except when you throw yourself on the floor at Tesco, yep, not then). Yet, you bring about such mixed feelings in me. I love seeing you grow, but it’s happening so fast. Each year that passes it feels like I’m saying goodbye to one little boy, and meeting another. You’re inquisitive, fun, nature and dirt loving; a definite…
Well, it’s been a while since I posted a parenting update. This is a long and somewhat cathartic post, but I hope if you have a toddler speech evaluation coming up, you’ll find it helpful. We’ve been concerned over my 2 year old son’s speech since June last year. It began at Jonah’s routine 2-year check, when our health visitor flagged a possible speech delay. After an 8 month wait, Jonah had his toddler speech evaluation. Read on to find out what happened at our appointment and learn more about the activities we were recommended to try with Jonah – they’re proving to be effective for us! Throughout, we’ve sought ways to improve his speech at home. It’s a long wait for the assessment, and a long wait for the speech therapy sessions, and we want to take every step possible to help Jonah along. It all starts at home,…
In this review, I’m delighted to introduce a very special baby and toddler shampoo. Enfance Paris Gentle Shampoo is one of the nicest shampoos my little ones have had the pleasure of trying. Since this is my first encounter with Enfance Paris, let’s learn a little bit about this brand. A child’s skin is the most precious there is… French mother Agnès Laffourcade created Enfance Paris to develop the products she couldn’t find in the stores for her children. What makes the brand unique is that its organic clean skincare products are tailored to different ages of children, from birth to adolescence. Since both my children are under 3, I’ll be using those aimed at the 0 to 3 range. The focus is on caring for delicate skin with gentle beneficial aromatherapy-based formulations and natural vegetable butters. I’m so impressed with the quality of the brand. Firstly, all products aim…
I’m really excited to share our experience starting baby led weaning. I thought it might be helpful to share Cara’s first foods, how I’m preparing her meals, and our set up. I hope it’ll help you get started, as I know how daunting it can be at the beginning! We began weaning Cara the day she turned 6 months old. I have to say, we’re finding it so much easier the second time around. You see, we introduced my son Jonah to solids with baby led weaning too. He’s almost 3 now, and a voracious (yet very messy!) eater. So, we know the differences between gagging and choking, we’re more prepared to deal with the mess, and importantly we’ve seen first-hand the benefits of baby led weaning. If you’re unsure if baby led weaning is right for your family, it’s definitely worth reading up on the benefits, or buy the…
Today, I’d love to introduce you to a very special brand whose skincare I’ve had the privilege of using. o.Moi Skincare creates luxury Danish skincare with an elegant French twist. The brand really cares about helping you take some “me-time”. Not only that, but they create wonderful products to nurture your little ones, too. This desire to help you take me-time is a core tenet of the brand which is even reflected in the name – o.Moi comes from the French words “Oh Moi”. o.Moi Skincare helps you feel good about using only pure, healing essential oils as part of an aromatherapy experience. The range will take great care of both your skin and your well-being. It’s good to know that all products are free from parabens, silicones, mineral oils, and synthetic fragrances. The brand was created by Kristèle Sun, a fully qualified aromatherapist who was born in Mauritius and…
I’m always eager to try out any new baby care range, so I was really excited when I found out Odylique had launched new organic baby care products under the name Odylique Baby. Odylique are amongst my favourite brands for those with very sensitive skin because they use only the cleanest of ingredients. So hearing about Odylique Baby made complete sense! The brand describes itself as genuine, nurturing, and unique – which is an accurate description. It feels like I don’t need to check the ingredients list since I trust the brand so much! But I do though, just because it’s interesting. I love that the products are handmade in small batches on a family farm in Suffolk. Ingredients are sourced locally and sustainably with no air-freight since everything comes from the UK or Europe. Odylique never tests on animals and even won an RSPCA award for their commitment to…
Sarah Ockwell-Smith’s latest book, titled The Second Baby Book, adds to her collection of parenting books under the gentle parenting umbrella. As the name suggests, this book is all about how to cope with pregnancy number two and create a happy home for your firstborn and your new arrival. We always planned to have 2 children – Jonah came in June 2016, and Cara in November last year. I find Sarah’s books a huge source of guidance and reassurance. Especially since I’ve often found myself at odds with some current parenting styles. Gentle parenting shifts away from authoritarian parenting and aims to be child led, respectful, and mindful. I’ve enjoyed Sarah’s other books including Gentle Parenting and The Gentle Eating Book. As a mum to four with a degree in psychology, she is so knowledgable but also relatable – she really understands. I just wish The Second Baby Book had…
Kokoso Baby is the perfect baby and toddler skincare range for your own children, or as a gift. It’s pure, natural, and gentle, with no dubious ingredients. In this Kokoso Baby review, I share my thoughts on several Kokoso Baby skincare products. The entire range is based on the wonderful healing and moisturising qualities of raw virgin organic coconut oil. Kokoso Baby’s flagship product is a superior quality, readily absorbed coconut oil. There’s also a gentle body wash in fragranced or unfragranced (for newborns or sensitive skins), and an effective scalp cream – all based on the same coconut oil. Accessories to the range are a cute baby hairbrush and konjac baby sponge. Made with love for our babies and yours. Kokoso Baby was founded by then new mum Lauren who, like all parents, wanted the very best for her little one’s sensitive skin. With a passion for coconut oil,…
