As a breastfeeding mama, it’s always intriguing to find premade snacks marketed towards breastfeeding women. These Nutrimum Breastfeeding Bars caught my eye in Boots last week – I just had to buy a pack! I am partial to a biscuit or flapjack, so I had to find out what the benefits for a breastfeeding mama would be from these bars. And importantly, if they actually taste good. When I first started breastfeeding Jonah, I was the thirstiest, hungriest mama alive. Seriously, I kept a pint of water and a 4-pack of Co-op granola bars next to me at all times. Probably not very healthy, since one of those granola bars contains about 300 calories and lots of sugar. So, these Nutrimum Breastfeeding Bars are a healthier option and have some added goodness to support your body in its breastfeeding role. Obviously, a varied and healthy diet is the best way…
We’ve just got back from a gorgeous babies brunch where we got to try out the brilliant Messy Little Thing bib. Those a-ha moments in parenting, where you wish you’d discovered something sooner? I’m going to share with you just one of those moments. Jonah is almost 19 months and we’ve been weaning him since he was 6 months old. He still eats with his hands and isn’t that great at using a knife, spoon, or holding a open cup. He’d much rather make a huge mess and get stuck in with his hands! In true baby led weaning fashion, almost every meal he gets messy. We don’t avoid the mess. We use an eco stain remover to soak his clothes. At the beginning of weaning, we did an awful lot of soaking. We still have a hard time keeping Jonah clean when we eat messy meals like tomato sauce pasta,…
Since writing this post, Mia & Dom have closed their skincare brand. We don’t use lots of skincare products on Jonah, but one thing we do seem to get through is bath product. I will be honest – we don’t bathe Jonah every day unless he absolutely needs it. I’m a big believer in letting him get mucky to build up his microbiome. And, taking baths too often can dehydrate delicate skin. Jonah does love a bath though, so I thought we’d try this gorgeous Mia & Dom Organic Baby Bath Oil. This is the first time I’ve tried Mia & Dom, so let me introduce them: Mia & Dom is a lovely British brand making organic handmade skin care products for mothers and babies. The range was created by a mama whose son suffers with eczema – the Dom of Mia & Dom. Disclosure: I chose this product using credits…
I was so bowled over to be invited to guest post my extended breastfeeding story for Columns by Kari in her World Mama series. This gorgeous series highlights amazing stories from parents all over the world. It gives a really broad perspective of life as a parent. In the post, you can read my experiences on breastfeeding a baby over 1 year old. Sometimes, it’s lovely to breastfeed an older baby. Often, it comes with challenges, too. You can also find tips on how to make breastfeeding work if you hope to go beyond a year. Have a read! My extended breastfeeding story for Columns by Kari I’ve been a fan of Kari and her blog since we met on Instagram. Her feed is so beautiful! Have you checked out Kari’s blog before? She features beauty and parent life with her gorgeous family in both English and Dutch. Take a…
In this post, I’d love to share with you healthy ways to prepare for a second pregnancy. Yes, we’re trying for another baby! We’ve been trying for 4 cycles so far! This post will focus on the healthy things you can do to get your body ready for a second pregnancy, and is especially relevant if you’re a breastfeeding or older mum. I hope you’ll find this post really helpful! In another post, I’ll also talk about my worries and fears, and how I can overcome them. They’re worries shared by virtually all pregnant women – I’m sure you mamas can relate! I will link to that post once it’s completed. Some backstory: it took 15 months for my fertility to return after Jonah. I do think it’s awesome that for many women, breastfeeding controls fertility. Our bodies know whether or not we’d be able to cope physically with the…

I love cookies, and I love all the flavours of Christmas – so what better recipe for a breastfeeding mama than festive lactation cookies? My festive lactation cookies are an adaptation of the recipe for lactation cookies over at BellyBelly.com.au. They’re light, moist, sweet, and incredibly festive. So what makes festive lactation cookies festive? I’ve added warming spices, zesty orange, dried cranberries, and sweet juicy raisins to the classic mixture to impart a true taste of Christmas. Soooo good! How do festive lactation cookies work? The festive lactation cookies contain three galactagogue (increasing milk supply), or lactogenic (supporting milk supply) foods: Bear in the mind that the best way to increase your milk supply is to feed your baby more frequently. These cookies are not a medical solution to low milk supply. See a feeding specialist if you believe you have low milk supply. Brewer’s yeast Brewer’s yeast provides a range…
If you’re pregnant or a new mum wondering what you might need on your breastfeeding journey, this post is for you. Natural breastfeeding products – the breastfeeding essentials you’ll need for the first six months and beyond. These are my all-time favourite breastfeeding products, which have been invaluable to me. I’ve breastfed all four of my littles from birth until the age of 2, so I’ve tried a lot of breastfeeding products. Here are the products I return to again and again – from the best nipple balms, teas and support for mum, but also the best breast pumps, bottles for breastfeeding babies, and nursing pillows. My breastfeeding back story When I first wrote this post, I’d been breastfeeding Jonah for almost 17 months. We struggled at the start with painful latch, and we overcame it together. My mum breastfed me for a few weeks so had a little experience…
This week, we booked my toddler’s first haircut. It’s safe to say I’ve been quite anxious about it all week. If you’ve been following my blog or Instagram, you’ve probably experienced the loveliness that is my son’s hair. It’s beautiful, and fast becoming part of his personality. But it does seem a little untamed when he’s next to his peers with their neat haircuts. I often ask myself, should we get his first haircut? Then, my I berate myself. His locks are so precious, how can I contemplate getting them cut? They’re soft, slightly curly, and beautifully wild and natural. I’m feeling hesitant about my toddler’s first haircut – especially since he’ll lose those beautiful first baby curls and may come out with a grown-up look. My worries are that a haircut will somehow take something away from Jonah, and that changing his look might change how I feel about him.…
Kids and adults alike love getting dressed up for Halloween – and spooky makeup and face paint are part of the magic. But what if that Halloween makeup contains ingredients you’d rather not use? Yep, heavy metals, talc, and endocrine disrupting parabens are not what I want to paint on my child’s skin! What we need is natural Halloween makeup we can use for babies and toddlers! “You’ve got to be extra careful with what goes on a child’s sensitive skin. Safe, natural options make it easier to enjoy the fun without worrying about harmful effects.” says Sara Millecam of Beautiful Brows and Lashes. It’s so fun and easy to make your own natural face paints that you can use at Halloween and other times of the year. And once you have your natural Halloween makeup sorted – a spooky Halloween outfit, dramatic hair styling, face makeup, and fake blood…
