It’s a source of amusement in the Little family that so many of our birthdays fall in January – that’s me, my brother, husband, auntie, and my father-in-law! Today, January 4th, it’s my blog’s turn, as it celebrates its first birthday! I hope you can join me in wishing happy birthday to Natural Beauty with Baby! Natural skincare and beauty has always been a passion – one I found myself even more interested in when I became pregnant. Once I was expecting, it was naturally more important to avoid harmful ingredients. When Jonah was born, the same applied to his skincare. I thought it would be a rewarding hobby to document mine and Jonah’s favourite natural skincare and beauty products. I wanted to shout these products from the rooftops! And so my blog was born. Let’s take a look at Natural Beauty with Baby through the months. January I started…

I love cookies, and I love all the flavours of Christmas – so what better recipe for a breastfeeding mama than festive lactation cookies? My festive lactation cookies are an adaptation of the recipe for lactation cookies over at BellyBelly.com.au. They’re light, moist, sweet, and incredibly festive. So what makes festive lactation cookies festive? I’ve added warming spices, zesty orange, dried cranberries, and sweet juicy raisins to the classic mixture to impart a true taste of Christmas. Soooo good! How do festive lactation cookies work? The festive lactation cookies contain three galactagogue (increasing milk supply), or lactogenic (supporting milk supply) foods: Bear in the mind that the best way to increase your milk supply is to feed your baby more frequently. These cookies are not a medical solution to low milk supply. See a feeding specialist if you believe you have low milk supply. Brewer’s yeast Brewer’s yeast provides a range…

Which meat eater doesn’t love a traditional Sunday roast chicken with all the trimmings? If you’re following baby led weaning, or feeding a toddler, they will enjoy this staple family meal too. A traditional accompaniment to classic roast chicken is a delicious chicken gravy. So good – Sunday dinners wouldn’t be the same without it. So here is my recipe for no added salt chicken gravy, suitable for babies. Most traditional gravies are too salty for babies and toddlers – Bisto Gravy Granules have 14g salt per 100g! The government recommendation for babies under 1 year is 1g of salt, rising to 2g for 1 year plus. Anything with more than 1.5g salt per 100g is considered to have a high salt content and will be unsuitable for babies and toddlers. But I wouldn’t have Jonah missing out at our Sunday meal time! So I created a quick and easy chicken…

This recipe for cheese and lentil wedges is adapted from the fantastic Baby Led Weaning Cookbook. The book is invaluable for tasty, simple recipes that your baby or toddler will love! These lentil and cheese wedges are just the right size for little hands, and are great with a side serving of Greek yogurt and fresh salad vegetables like tomato and cucumber (or umb-umber as Jonah calls it). The first time we made these yummy wedges from The Baby Led Weaning Cookbook, they didn’t turn out so good – although I think Jonah would disagree with me, since he ate up all his serving! I used Wensleydale cheese (a crumbly lower salt cheese), and I probably overcooked them slightly. Nonetheless, Jonah loved them, so I had another go. This time I used Cheddar cheese and reduced the cooking time by 5 minutes. They came out great and held it together…
