Welcome back, my dear friend! Today I’m setting skincare aside to talk about the latest release from one of my favourite parenting authors. Introducing The Starting School Book by Sarah Ockwell-Smith! As new and clueless parents who gravitated towards natural birth, breastfeeding, bed sharing, and attachment parenting, Sarah Ockwell-Smith books and Gentle Parenting (GP) appealed to my style of parenting right away. Her books are a goldmine of parenting advice. She has four children herself, a degree in psychology, and has helped countless parents through her work as an antenatal teacher and doula, her books and online channels. A little of our backstory. My son, Jonah, turns 4 in June and was due to start at primary school in September. However, we have delayed his school start till September 2021, for several different reasons. Sarah Ockwell-Smith’s latest book, titled The Second Baby Book, adds to her collection of parenting books under the gentle parenting umbrella. As the name suggests, this book is all about how to cope with pregnancy number two and create a happy home for your firstborn and your new arrival. Especially since I’ve often found myself at odds with some current parenting styles. Gentle parenting shifts away from authoritarian parenting and aims to be child led, respectful, and mindful. I’ve enjoyed Sarah’s other books including Gentle Parenting and The Gentle Eating Book. As a mum to four with a degree in psychology, she is so knowledgable but also relatable – she really understands. I just wish The Second Baby Book had…
I was so pleased to be sent a copy of Sarah Ockwell-Smith’s new book, The Gentle Eating Book (£9.99, Amazon). I’ve followed Sarah and gentle parenting since Jonah was born. I’m going to apologise in advance for the length of this post, but reading this book has moved me in so many ways. I’ve found it to be very healing. I’m so excited to share it with you! Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book to review. My opinions are my own and unbiased. Sarah is a founder of the gentle parenting movement, which is a shift away from authoritarian parenting approaches of the past. Gentle parenting aims to be a child led, respectful, and mindful way to raise children. Sarah’s other books include Gentle Parenting, The Gentle Discipline Book, The Gentle Sleep Book, and The Gentle Potty Training Book, amongst others. The Gentle Eating Book follows similarly by…
