Sisters My Linh and My Yen co-founded J Botanics after receiving the devastating news that their 5 year old son and nephew had developed a rare type of soft tissue cancer.
Understandably, the family wanted to try all they could to keep themselves as healthy as possible through cancer treatments plus worry, stress, and fear.
In treating J’s skin, they learned that many cleansing and moisturising products that claim to be natural do, in fact, contain synthetic irritants with worrying safety profiles.
The deep-rooted passion we had to do away with products containing synthetic PEGs, SLS/SLES, artificial fragrance/parfum, parabens, phthalates and many more, led us to discover what ‘natural skincare’ should in fact be.
Thankfully, J is doing well now. And J Botanics continues to bring us natural and healthy skincare for parents and their children.
I was so honoured to be approached by the sisters to try their natural skincare range.
On the J Botanics website, I found natural skincare products that really are 100% natural – a sumptuous oil cleanser, fruity superfood scrubs, anti-ageing serums, and products like this vanilla and orange Amazonian body butter with cupuacu and organic avocado oil. Children’s offerings include moisturiser, healing balm, and baby oil.

Strip Back Cleansing Oil
Oil to milk cleansers are amongst my favourites because they remove makeup for a deep first cleanse yet are easy to take off with a damp cloth. Cleansing is my absolute favourite thing to do to wind down after a tiring day. That’s why I chose this gorgeous fragrant cleansing oil with moringa and lavender to remove daily grime, SPF, and makeup.
J Botanics claim that this cleansing oil contains “a perfectly balanced blend of high performing plant botanicals that are rich in essential fatty acids, omega 9, antioxidants, and nutrients”.
The oil is suitable for all skin types and boasts softening, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties – making it a great choice for those with acne-prone or sensitive skin.
I’ve been testing this product for well over a month now and I’m so impressed with it. I spread a small amount across my palms and take a deep breath of the calming fragrance. I then massage it into dry skin until all my makeup is dissolved. Removing it with a damp cloth is so easy since the oil turns to milk on contact with water.
My skin is clean and supple and without a trace of over stripping or greasiness left behind. I don’t have to rub to get my eye makeup off, it just wipes away. After a few weeks use both me and my skin are really happy with this cleanser, and I’d certainly buy it again!

Age-Defy Night Serum
Now on to the next product I chose, this gorgeous night serum for normal to dry skin. It’s fair to say this serum is packed with powerful anti-ageing actives and plant oils.
I’m a big fan of serums, especially at night time. I like their light feeling and the fact I can use a face oil over the top without overloading my skin. This one contains so many great anti-ageing ingredients, I couldn’t resist its promises.
J Botanics claim that this serum “intensely hydrates dry skin that is thirsty for water”. It aims to plump, soften, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The key ingredients for me are firstly the vegan hyaluronic acid to reduce moisture loss, promote skin regeneration, and stimulate cell renewal. I’m also excited by the addition of eco marine algae extract, a powerful anti-wrinkle active to stimulate the production of collagen. There’s also Whu Zu extract, a Chinese fruit that instantly illuminates and brightens dull skin. When you add in organic rosehip oil, rich in natural vitamin A (tretinoin) – it’s easy to see why I’m so in love with the ingredients!
I use this serum at night time after cleansing and toning (with rose water more often than not). It really packs a hydrating punch but the formula is lovely and light. It sinks in really quickly. I usually follow with a face oil, but sometimes the serum is enough on its own.
My skin is soft, well hydrated, and my wrinkles and fine lines are softened. I can’t recommend this serum highly enough. J Botanics also offer serums for oily/combination and sensitive skins that are well worth a look.
