Welcome back, lover of all things beauty and skincare! In this article, I’m going to explain the benefits of powdered facial cleansers.

Women in Korea and Japan have long understood the numerous benefits of powdered facial cleansers, yet, we in the west have been slower to take them up. The interest in skin care has traditionally not been as great as in the east.

Could it be we’ve become set in our ways with harsh, dull and sometimes ineffective foaming surfactant based cleansers, cleansing wipes and micellar water? So – if you fancy it, it’s time to shake it up and try some new and exciting cleansers!

But first, what is a powdered facial cleanser?

So what’s the difference between a powdered facial cleanser, and other types of cleanser? It’s all down to the texture.

Powdered facial cleansers – as the name suggests – come in a powdered format that is usually waterless. Unlike oils, balms, creams, and gels, there’s no significant oil or water content in this type of cleanser.

What you can expect to find, though, are beneficial enzymes, clays, extracts, antioxidants, exfoliating particles and essential oils from all kinds of sources.

What are the benefits of powdered cleansers for mums?

Speed up your routine

Powdered cleansers cleverly combine exfoliating and cleansing for a faster cleanse and treatment in one. One of my favourite powdered facial cleansers, Nini Organics Natura Detox Foam (£44, Nini Organics), includes salicylic acid from white willow bark to gently exfoliate your skin and tackle acne.

Relief for sensitive skin during pregnancy or hormonal change

Since there is no water in a powdered facial cleanser, and likely fewer or no preservatives, they can make a better choice for sensitive skin during pregnancy or postpartum. You can also use more or less water for a more thorough or more gentle cleanse, putting you in complete control. There’s so much to love!

Completely customisable

Powdered facial cleansers make a great pampering choice for when you have more time in the bathroom. You can customise your cleanse by mixing them with floral waters and facial oils. You could even go totally Cleopatra and add goats milk to your powdered facial cleanser! The sky is the limit!

Great for environmentally conscious mums

No water means a more concentrated product, and in theory less packaging. A choice you’ll feel great about! Dr. Barbara Sturm Enzyme Cleanser (£55, Cult Beauty) has a reassuringly small list of ingredients and comes with Cult Beauty’s Provence Proof of Impact badge, making it a great conscious choice.

Powdered facial cleansers are fun

Who doesn’t love using their fingers to mix up bubbly potions? These sensory concoctions do more than cleanse and treat – they engulf the senses in sound, texture, and scent. Try rich and fizzing May Lindstrom The Clean Dirt (£54, May Lindstrom) for a brightening powerhouse from the very first use.
