Today I’m sharing the fun we’re having with Chalkola Chalk Markers! And we’re giving away a set of 16 Chalkola Chalk Markers, so if you’d like to enter, just hop straight to the giveaway.

I was really happy to hear from Chalkola when they asked if we’d like to try their chalk markers. Although our kids are quite young, we enjoy drawing, painting, and crafts.

And when I researched the markers I found that Chalkola markers are child safe, water based, and non-toxic. It’s good news for parents that the chalk dries quickly and washes easily out of clothes!

My Chalkola markers

We first tried our markers on a chalkboard, which we keep for scribbling quick messages and drawing pictures to share with the children. It’s a great medium because it’s lightweight and easy to work with. I can just wipe it with a wet cloth to start a new picture.

The markers are just like liquid chalk. They work best on chalkboards, whiteboards, glass, and ceramics. We love the beautiful vintage colours we received, and how the chalk comes smoothly from the tip. They’re really satisfying to work with! And I can turn the tip around to toggle between a chisel or rounded tip for some really cool effects.

Next, it was time to think of an awesome Christmas project to give the chalk markers a good test!

Making a virtual Christmas card with chalk markers

This year we decided to send a virtual Christmas card to some of our friends and relatives. It’s a personalised and eco-friendly alternative to traditional cards, and we save on postage costs too.

It was so much fun to create this virtual Christmas card inspired by the easy to follow tutorials on the Chalkola blog.

Don’t judge me on my art skills, but I really got into the flow of creating the card, and the kids loved helping me to colour in the colourful baubles and signing it with their names.

Here are my tips that should help the first time you use chalk markers.

Tips for using chalk markers

Try my tips to get the most from your markers.

  1. Before starting, shake the marker for 30 seconds, upright, with the cap on.
  2. Press the tip down to start the flow of ink.
  3. You may find too much chalk comes out on the first use of the marker. To avoid this, I remove the excess on regular paper, working till the flow is right.
  4. Use a small firm brush to work the chalk for a feathered effect, however work fast as Chalkola dries quickly!
  5. Store your markers flat for a few minutes right after use. This should stop excess chalk from flowing into the tip or away from the tip.

I know we’re going to have lots of fun over Christmas creating more Chalkola projects.
